Really incredible!!! I don't know what is more difficult to me so this person writes as quickly as he speaks. Probably he's right in all what he says but it would be better I watched this video at least two or three times more and then I'll be able to have my ouw opinion about that.
I've seen the video several times and I have put the subtitles to understand it better. The speaker speaks very quickly and it's very difficult to follow him. The video says a lot of things. I agree with some of them, but not with others. I think the education system needs a change, because the results obtained today aren't adequate. For example, it is amazing how many spelling mistakes can make a high school student. Some of them are real nonsenses. Another example, a student of the fourth course of secondary school who can't calculate an arithmetic mean. And so, I could mention a few other examples. I don't agree that there are many students with Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity. I have never had any. I believe that students have little interest, little respect to teachers and little motivation to study. I think that the level has gone down to give the degree in high school more easily. And I think that in elementary school too, because there are students who come to high school without knowing divide by two. You can get the degree with little effort. The effort isn't rewarded. And good students don't consider necessary to make an effort. This is what I see daily in class. Although there are exceptions in everything. I agree with traditional classes are boring for students who are daily bombarded with information (Internet, mobile phones, TV, ...). But classes aren't what they were before, or at least I try to be different. We make use of new technologies. We have digital whiteboards and a lot of online resources. Classes can be really interactive, but that can create discipline problems. It's complicated. The speaker in the video talks about "divergent thinking" and creativity. He explains that it's possible to have several answers to the same problem. He also says that creativity loses with age. When I saw the video for the first time I didn't think in divergent thinking, but emotional intelligence. This is too philosophical for my poor head of science. Some workmates talk about emotional intelligence. I still I have no idea of what is it. How do emotions relate to studies and learning? It's true that the mood of the person drives him/her to get what he/she wants. I guess learning also. But what is our role as teachers. Rather, it seems that we have to be philosophers or psychologists. I think if the change goes in this direction, it will be necessary first to teach us what we must do. We'll see what happens. I'm shaking. I hope to have retired by then.
Excellent job Elena!!! Your opinion about education is really well explained in this article and I've understood what you tell better than what the speaker says in the video. I agree with you about you tell us, so thank you for your help. See you in class!!
